Kimi Antonelli Feels 'More Prepared' for Sophomore F1 Season After Psychological Work

As he prepares for his second season in Formula 1, Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli has revealed that he is feeling "more prepared" for the 2026 campaign, attributing his newfound readiness to psychological work during the winter break.

The 19-year-old Italian driver experienced a rollercoaster rookie season in 2025, starting with strong performances that included a Sprint pole position in Miami and a debut podium in Montreal, before facing challenges during the European leg. His form improved in the final third of the season, highlighted by a career-best P2 finish in Sao Paulo and another top-three result in Las Vegas.

"I used the break to reflect on the season just gone," Antonelli said in an interview on Mercedes' official website. "I did a few sessions with my psychologist, we looked back and understood what went well and what went wrong in 2025, and that helped to set some goals for this year."

Antonelli emphasized that the "Kimi of 2026 is more prepared," outlining specific changes to his approach. "Looking at the calendar, we will try and maximise the days at home to recharge and avoid extra travelling. We want to make sure I am always at 100% energy to maximise my performance in the car."

Focus on Physical Conditioning

The young driver also highlighted improvements to his physical preparation, noting that while he's satisfied with his strength, cardio training will become a priority. "A lot of that will come from the cardio side, we are happy with the strength, but now we want to start working on the cardio, it will really help in those hotter races," he explained.

After spending time training and switching off with family during the break, Antonelli admitted he felt ready to return to action when preparations resumed in January. "It was nice to be at home, but I really loved the build up to everything, too," he conceded. "Coming back to the factory, seeing the car come together, getting on track at Silverstone and then coming to Barcelona. It's all been really, really cool."

Personal Growth as Ultimate Goal

When discussing his goals for the upcoming season, Antonelli focused on personal development and discipline. "I would be happy if in December 2026 I was always able to give 100% this year, and say that I got everything out of it, by staying disciplined," he stated.

"I want to keep growing as a person this year, that's the ultimate goal. We'll have to see where that takes us," the Mercedes driver added, reflecting a mature perspective as he enters his sophomore year in the sport.

Antonelli's psychological approach and emphasis on energy management represent a strategic evolution from his rookie season, suggesting the young talent is taking deliberate steps to maximize his potential in what promises to be a crucial second year with the Mercedes team.
