Tavernier calls Bournemouth’s Milan showdown an ‘unbelievable moment’

Bournemouth embrace a landmark European night

Marcus Tavernier says Bournemouth’s Europa League clash with AC Milan is an “unbelievable moment” for the club, as the Cherries prepare to host one of European football’s most celebrated sides at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth have made an impressive start to their maiden Europa League campaign, winning their opening two matches. They now have the chance to make it three in a row against AC Milan, a club with a rich record in European competition.

“For us, it’s our job but at the same time, when we got the draw, we wanted to play these massive clubs who have had so much success in their own leagues and European competitions,” Tavernier said.

“If you told us last season that, this season, we would be playing against Milan at home in the Europa League, I think we would have snapped your hand off for it.”

The winger, who scored in Bournemouth’s recent win over Sunderland, said the occasion represents the kind of stage the club wants to reach more often.

“It’s an unbelievable moment for Bournemouth in the way we want to proceed, to carry on going to be involved in these types of games and make Bournemouth a bigger club in the world.”

Milan’s visit offers another test of Bournemouth’s progress in Europe. The hosts will look to turn the occasion into a result and extend their strong start to the campaign.
