Ipswich investigate racist online abuse aimed at Abdul Fatawu after red card
Ipswich open investigation into abuse of Abdul Fatawu
Ipswich Town have launched an investigation after forward Abdul Fatawu was subjected to online racist abuse following the club’s 1-0 Premier League defeat by Everton.

The club said it was “aware of online racist abuse” directed at the Ghanaian attacker and described it as “completely unacceptable”. Ipswich added that it was investigating the incident alongside the Premier League and the relevant authorities.
“We are investigating this incident alongside the Premier League and the relevant authorities. We will continue to offer Abdul our full support,” the club said.
Fatawu started Saturday’s match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium but was sent off after receiving two bookings. He has made five appearances for Ipswich since joining from Leicester City in July in a reported £20m deal. The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract with the club.
Fans’ group Reach Tractors condemned the abuse and called for those responsible to be held accountable.
“We’re disgusted by reports of racial abuse directed at Abdul Fatawu. Racism has no place in football or society. Everyone at Reach Tractors stands firmly with Abdul.”
Fatawu scored nine goals in 44 appearances for Leicester City last season. He has also represented Ghana at international level, making 32 appearances and scoring three goals.
