ECB Adjusts T20I Start Times for India Tour; 15-Year-Old Sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Set for Historic Debut

ECB Prioritizes Indian Viewership with Revised Match Timings

In a strategic move to boost television viewership in India, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a revision to the start times for three floodlit T20Is during India's upcoming white-ball tour of England. Scheduled between July 1 and July 19, the tour will feature five T20Is and three ODIs.

Following discussions with broadcasters, the ECB has advanced the start times of three evening T20Is by one hour. Originally set for 6:30 pm local time (11 pm IST), the matches will now commence at 5:30 pm local time (10 pm IST). This adjustment ensures that fans in India will see matches conclude around 2 am rather than stretching toward 3 am.

The decision highlights the immense commercial value of the Indian market for English cricket, with India-related tours remaining some of the ECB's most valuable broadcast properties.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: A Potential History-Maker

While the scheduling news is a win for fans, the sporting world is buzzing over the inclusion of 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the senior India squad. Sooryavanshi's call-up follows a record-breaking IPL 2026 season where he dominated the tournament.

The teenager finished as the leading run-scorer of IPL 2026, claiming the Orange Cap with 776 runs, including one century and five fifties, at a staggering strike rate of 237.30. His brilliance earned him five major accolades: Emerging Player of the Season, Most Valuable Player, Orange Cap, Best Strike Rate, and Most Sixes.

If selected for the series against Ireland or England, Sooryavanshi is poised to surpass the record held by legend Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 205 days in 1989. A debut at 15 would rewrite Indian cricketing history after nearly four decades.

Squad Announcements

The BCCI has named the squads for both the two-match T20I series against Ireland and the five-match T20I series against England. Shreyas Iyer will lead the side, taking over the captaincy from Suryakumar Yadav.

The Squad: Shreyas Iyer (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (VC), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohd. Siraj, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
