Lamine Yamal provokes Sevilla players after responding to home crowd boos
Lamine Yamal at centre of flashpoint in Sevilla vs Barcelona
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was at the heart of a heated exchange involving several Sevilla players during this evening’s La Liga meeting between the two clubs at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
The incident came after the 19-year-old was targeted with a heavy round of jeers, boos and whistles from the home crowd. Yamal responded by calling for more noise from the Sevilla faithful, a gesture that did not go down well with the hosts.
Several Sevilla players made a beeline for Barcelona’s young winger, evidently feeling as though Lamine was behaving in a disrespectful manner.
Barcelona in title defence mode
Barcelona travel to Andalusia on the back of six wins from six to open the defence of their La Liga crown under Hansi Flick. Yamal started the fixture and has played a leading role on the ball, but it was his reaction off the ball in the first half that turned heads.
The flashpoint underlined the intensity of the Sevilla-Barcelona rivalry and the scrutiny on Yamal as one of Europe’s most talked-about teenagers.
