Hyderabad pitch offers bowlers a chance as India eye series-clinching win

India will look to seal the five-match T20I series when they meet West Indies in Hyderabad on October 14, with the hosts leading 2-1 after defending 223 in Indore. The fourth match is scheduled to start at 7pm IST at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

A different surface could alter the pattern
The series has largely favoured batters, but conditions in Indore offered bowlers some relief: low bounce and a lack of dew helped India defend their total. It was the first time in six matches across the tour’s three ODIs and three T20Is that a target was not chased successfully.
Hyderabad’s pitches have been re-soiled, which could require batters to assess conditions before attacking. The venue’s recent record also gives the side batting first a reason for optimism: five of the seven IPL 2026 matches there were won by the team batting first. That competition-specific figure is no guarantee of how the T20I surface will play, and the toss and dew could still prove influential.
India seek to maintain momentum
Shreyas Iyer can secure a fifth consecutive series win as India’s T20I captain if his team closes out the contest. Tilak Varma brings local familiarity, while Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy have experience of the venue through their Sunrisers connections. Tilak said he was unsure how the new pitch would behave, despite Hyderabad’s history as a high-scoring ground.
India are expected to retain the balance that worked in Indore, according to the preview, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi likely to remain on the sidelines. West Indies have been unable to find an obvious opening for Amir Jangoo, despite his impact in the ODI series. Roston Chase has been a standout with the ball for the visitors, conceding 8.48 runs per over in the T20I series, while Mayank Yadav’s continued availability has encouraged India after his recent injury troubles.
Tilak Varma summed up the challenge posed by the visitors: “The West Indies team, they are a really, really good side. You know, they play so much franchise cricket, that they know how to play this T20 format.” He added that their power runs deep through the batting order.
