Wilshere Backs Arsenal to Make Statement with Vinicius Pursuit

Vinicius Junior's future at Real Madrid remains uncertain, and former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes the Premier League champions have an opportunity to make a statement signing that would demonstrate their continued ambition.

The 26-year-old Brazilian winger has entered the final year of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Arsenal reportedly among the clubs monitoring his situation. Since the start of the 2021-22 season, Vinicius has directly contributed to the most goals in LaLiga with 106 goal involvements (69 goals, 37 assists), while also ranking fourth in total goals scored.

Impressive Dribbling Statistics

Vinicius's technical ability remains among the best in world football. Across the 2025-26 campaign, only Lamine Yamal (133) and Yan Diomande (118) completed more dribbles across Europe's top five leagues than Vinicius's 87 successful dribbles.

Wilshere's Verdict

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Wilshere emphasized what a Vinicius signing would represent for Mikel Arteta's side following their Premier League triumph.

"It would definitely be a statement from Mikel [Arteta] and the club that they won the league last year and they're not resting on that," Wilshere said. "They're ready to go again and want to improve, not just on the pitch but also on the commercial side as well with a player like that."

Vinicius is not the only Brazilian player linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have also reportedly shown interest in Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, though a bid for the player has already been rejected.

Wilshere remains confident that Arsenal can secure quality additions to their squad while maintaining their core.

"The one thing I don't see changing is Declan Rice," Wilshere added. "Whenever the team played well last year, he was a big part of that. He needs a rest now, he's had a lot going on in the summer as well, of course. But to add quality, Bruno is a player I really enjoy watching. With Mikel's coaching and the way he'll shape his play, plus the quality he already has, it will be a top signing for them if they get it done."
