Leipzig chief slams 'transfer experts' over Diomande exit claims

RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer has launched a fierce rebuke against the reporting surrounding Yan Diomande's future, insisting that claims of an imminent move to Real Madrid are wide of the mark.

The 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger has been one of European football's most sought-after talents this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Real Madrid all circling. While PSG have seemingly withdrawn their interest, Madrid have been widely reported to be on the brink of sealing a blockbuster deal, despite reportedly seeing a €100m bid rejected.

However, Schafer has poured cold water on those suggestions, particularly targeting those who declared the saga effectively over.

"It's clear that some so-called transfer experts reported a few days ago that the deal was done or gave it the 'here we go.' That's simply not the case. We're not at that stage yet," Schafer told Sky Germany.

Diomande missed Leipzig's most recent pre-season friendly due to illness, a detail confirmed by head coach Martin Demichelis, which only fuelled further speculation about his immediate future. But Schafer was categorical that an agreement has not been reached.

The youngster recently switched agencies to Roc Nation, the same firm that represents Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, prompting questions over whether the change could complicate or accelerate negotiations. Schafer dismissed any concerns along those lines.

"From my perspective, it's a clear no. I'm not aware of that," Schafer added. "There has been a change of agents. Our point of contact is now Roc Nation. That's something Yan made very clear to us. I don't think a transfer would fall through because of that, if it even comes to a transfer in the first place."

Why Diomande is in such demand

It is not hard to see why Europe's elite would be scrambling to sign the teenager. Diomande still has four years left on his current Leipzig contract, but a scintillating 2025-26 campaign has thrust him firmly into the global spotlight.

The youngster directly contributed to 22 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions last season (13 goals, nine assists), helping Leipzig secure a third-place finish in the Bundesliga.

His numbers in the German top flight were nothing short of outstanding. Diomande completed the most dribbles (118) and take-on ending carries (124) of any player in the Bundesliga, underlining his status as one of the most devastating wide players in world football despite his age.

With four years still remaining on his current Leipzig deal, the Bundesliga side are under no immediate pressure to sell. But with Real Madrid continuing to push and the player's star rising rapidly, the transfer saga of the summer looks far from over.
