International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah on Sunday inaugurated the Tanzania Cricket Arena (TCA Arena) in Dar es Salaam, marking a historic milestone for the country's cricketing journey. The venue stands as the first-ever ICC-approved cricket stadium in Tanzania and is poised to play a pivotal role in developing the sport across East Africa.

A New Hub for High Performance

Located at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), the TCA Arena has been established as Tanzania's permanent home for cricket. The modern facility features two international-standard cricket ovals and will function as the country's national high-performance centre.

The venue is designed to be a multi-purpose hub for the sport, focusing on:

• Player development programmes and talent identification pathways
• Coach education initiatives
• Umpire training and development
• Hosting prestigious international cricket tournaments

The project saw rapid execution, with land allocated in October 2024, construction beginning in April 2025, and full completion achieved by July 2026.

Hosting the World Cup Challenge League B

Tanzania is set to make its debut as a host nation shortly after the opening. The TCA Arena will stage the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Challenge League B from August 8 to August 18, 2026. This tournament serves as a critical qualification pathway toward the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

Leadership Praise for Tanzanian Vision

During the ceremony, which was attended by Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Chairman Dr B.S. Sreekumar and various government officials, Jay Shah commended the local efforts to expand the game.

"The inauguration of the TCA Arena is a significant milestone for cricket in Tanzania and demonstrates what can be achieved through vision, commitment and strong collaboration. The progress made by the Tanzania Cricket Association is remarkable," Shah stated.

He further emphasized that the arena would provide a platform to inspire young people and that the ICC would continue to work with members to ensure sustainable growth in infrastructure and local capability.

TCA Chairman Dr B.S. Sreekumar echoed this sentiment, calling the facility a "defining moment" for the sporting landscape. "This facility is far more than a cricket ground; it represents a vision for the future of our sport," Sreekumar added.
