Balde Addresses Speculation Head-On

Alejandro Balde has broken his silence on the swirling speculation surrounding his future at Barcelona, insisting he remains fully focused on his football despite mounting rumours that he could be shown the door this summer.

The Spanish defender's form during the last campaign has led to widespread suggestions that the club could offload him before the new season gets underway. However, speaking to TV3 following Barcelona's Joan Gamper Trophy triumph, Balde struck a composed and measured tone.

"The team is in good shape, it's been a different pre-season because the World Cup players have come back afterwards. The team is fine, physically, very well," Balde said.

"I'm a very quiet guy. I know there's a lot of talk, but I think I'm doing things right. I don't look at the press, but it's inevitable that it will come. I think I have to focus on myself and my work and things come."

The timing of the rumours is hardly coincidental. Barcelona are poised to confirm the return of Joao Cancelo for a third spell at the club this week, with the Portuguese international keen to establish himself as Hansi Flick's first-choice left-back — a position Balde has made his own in recent seasons.
