Barcelona open talks with Sunderland over Marc Casadó transfer

La Liga champions Barcelona have opened negotiations with Premier League outfit Sunderland over a potential late-window transfer agreement, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo and The Guardian.

Midfielder Marc Casadó is widely expected to bring a close to his time on Barcelona's books before the summer is out. No longer in the plans of Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick, the 22-year-old has been identified as a necessary sacrifice to raise funds for reinforcements elsewhere in Flick's ranks.

According to Mundo Deportivo, citing English outlet The Guardian: "Sunderland have entered the race for the player and are currently negotiating his arrival."

The Black Cats are not alone in their pursuit, however. From the Premier League alone, all of Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion have also been named as admirers of the Spanish international's talents.

A host of clubs from across the continent and beyond have been credited with an interest in Casadó's services since it became clear he would be allowed to depart, with the board at the Camp Nou keen to bring in cash for their late-window business.

With Barcelona determined not to stand in the way of a sale, Sunderland's sudden push to bring the midfielder to the Stadium of Light has now developed into formal negotiations as the summer reflects a fast-approaching deadline.
