Adama Traoré agrees free transfer to Deportivo La Coruña, setting up reunion with Aubameyang
Former Barcelona winger Adama Traoré has reached a verbal agreement to join La Liga side Deportivo La Coruña, with the explosive wide man set to return to Spain on a free transfer following his summer exit from Premier League-relegated West Ham United.
According to a report from transfer market insider Matteo Moretto, the deal is now moving quickly towards completion. 'Adama Traoré to Dépor is verbally agreed. The footballer will travel tomorrow to Galicia to tie up the last loose ends of the deal and sign the contract, ' Moretto confirmed.
The 30-year-old has been free to join any club since leaving West Ham at the end of his contract, having been out of the picture as a free agent for several months while a host of sides were credited with interest — albeit without any formal offer being tabled. Deportivo, however, appear to have finally sealed the deal after both of their opening La Liga fixtures this season ended in draws following their promotion from the Segunda División.
A move back to the Riazor
In making the switch to the Estadio Riazor, Traoré is primed to reunite with a former Barcelona teammate in the form of veteran frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, adding an intriguing attacking dimension to the newly-promoted side wearing the Galician strip.
Traoré joined West Ham from Fulham in January, making 12 appearances as the east London side suffered relegation to the Championship before departing at the expiry of his deal. During his short spell at the London Stadium, coach Nuno Espírito Santo notably revealed that the winger had been banned from lifting weights due to his 'genetics' causing an 'incredible' natural muscular frame.
The wideman did not feature in West Ham's final three games and was ruled out of their closing Premier League fixture with a hamstring injury.
In total, Traoré has made 271 Premier League appearances across spells with Aston Villa, São Paulo — before returning to the competition he knows well in this new chapter at the Riazor La Liga outfit.
