Miller's 93-ball 142 and Bavuma's century sink Australia as South Africa seal ODI series
David Miller smashed a brutal 142 off 93 balls and captain Temba Bavuma struck a composed century as South Africa beat Australia by 32 runs in the second one-day international at the Wanderers, sealing the series with a game to spare.
The Proteas posted an imposing 365-9 in Johannesburg before bowling Australia out for 333 in 49.5 overs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Miller's eighth one-day international century proved decisive as South Africa took command in Johannesburg.
Scorecard
- South Africa 365-9 (50 overs): Miller 142 (93 balls); Bavuma 103 (116); Edwards 5-67
- Australia 333 (49.5 overs): Marsh 84 (53); Williams 3-54
- Result: South Africa won by 32 runs
Proteas recover from earliest of blows
South Africa's imposing total was built on an impressive recovery after Aiden Markram was dismissed from the very first ball of the game and fellow opener Quinton de Kock fell cheaply for 15. Bavuma and Miller then added 156 for the fourth wicket to turn the innings around.
Bavuma reached three figures from 112 balls before holed out off Xavier Bartlett for 103, but Miller kept pummelling his way to a 73-ball ton — his eighth in one-day internationals — an innings featuring 12 fours and nine sixes. He then combined with the Jansen twins, Marco and Duan, to take South Africa beyond the 350 mark.
Miller capitalised on an Australia attack that was struggling for rhythm, with seamer Nathan Ellis able to bowl only four overs because of a side strain. Edwards' 5 for 67 was the pick of the tourists' bowling.
Head and Marsh give Australia flying start
Faced with what would have been the highest chase in their ODI history, Australia started strongly through the destructive opening partnership of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh, who added 130. But neither could kick on in the manner of Bavuma or Miller, with both openers falling for 84, and South Africa chipped away with regular middle-order wickets.
Bartlett's bravado in vain
All-rounder Bartlett kept Australia in contention with a sensational 26-ball fifty, but he was pinned lbw by a cracking Lizaad Williams yorker to leave 44 required from the last 14 balls. The tourists fell 32 runs short, bowled out for 333, with Williams finishing with 3 for 54.
What next
The series concludes at Potchefstroom on Wednesday and is followed by a three-Test series between the sides.
