PSG overwhelming favourites to retain Ligue 1 title in 2026-27, Opta predicts
PSG set for sixth straight title
Paris Saint-Germain head into 2026-27 as reigning Ligue 1 and European champions under Luis Enrique. The Opta supercomputer gives PSG a 68.1% chance to win the league across 10,000 simulations, down from 78.7% a year ago but still dominant.
PSG averaged 68.9% possession last season, scored 74 goals and conceded just 29 from a league-low 31.9 xG against. With question marks over Bradley Barcola’s future, the attack still features Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, supplemented by new arrivals Maghnes Akliouche and Ferran Torres.
The champions have a 91.5% chance of Champions League qualification and were relegated in 0% of simulations, with a lowest projected finish of 13th.
Can anyone challenge?
Lens remain the most likely challengers to finish second with a 19.4% probability, despite summer upheaval. Coach Pierre Sage left for Crystal Palace and star midfielder Mamadou Sangare moved to Brentford. Thorgan Hazard headlines incoming business as new coach Dino Toppmoller rebuilds.
Lille are handed an 11.4% title chance and a 26.9% likelihood of Champions League qualification under new manager Davide Ancelotti, though they may lose youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi to Manchester City interest.
Monaco and Lyon are close behind on title probabilities at 3.4% and 3.8% respectively, while Marseille, without Mason Greenwood after his move to Fenerbahce, are expected to finish sixth with a 21% Champions League chance.
Relegation battle
Troyes and Le Mans arrive as promoted sides, while Angers are forecast to finish bottom in 20.7% of simulations and go down automatically in 35.9%. Le Mans are tipped to be relegated in 29.2% of runs and Troyes in a similar range. Le Havre and Nice are also flagged as vulnerable, with Nice’s Champions League hopes at just 3.1%.
