2026 World Cup Set for Spectacular Triple Opening Ceremonies Across North America

The 2026 World Cup is preparing to launch with an unprecedented scale of celebration, featuring three separate opening ceremonies across the trio of host nations: Mexico, Canada, and the United States. With the largest bracket in tournament history, the festivities promise a blend of national imagery, elaborate sets, and a global array of musical talent.

World Cup preparations and excitement

Mexico: A Celebration of Culture at Estadio Azteca

Mexico's ceremony will take place at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Expected to last approximately 16 minutes and 30 seconds, the event will feature a heavy-hitting lineup including Shakira, J Balvin, Burna Boy, and Alejandro Fernández. Shakira, whose "Waka Waka" remains the most successful World Cup anthem to date, will be joined by Nigerian star Burna Boy for "Dai Dai," the theme for the 2026 tournament.

Adding to the prestige, actress Salma Hayek Pinault serves as Mexico’s official World Cup ambassador. The festivities will lead directly into Mexico's opening match against South Africa.

Canada: First-Time Host Pageantry at BMO Field

Making its debut as a World Cup host, Canada will hold its 13-minute ceremony at BMO Field in Toronto. The musical lineup is diverse, featuring Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, and Jessie Reyez. Morissette has been selected to perform the Canadian national anthem.

Canadian-American actor Will Arnett will act as the pitchside ambassador for the event, which precedes Canada's clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

United States: Hollywood Glitz at SoFi Stadium

The final ceremony will take place on Friday night at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Clocking in at 13 minutes, the U.S. show will feature global icons including Katy Perry, LISA, Future, and Anitta. The event will be hosted by World Cup ambassador and Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis.

The U.S. national team will follow the festivities by facing Paraguay at 9 p.m. ET.
