Lukaku ribs Donnarumma over 'owing' him two Premier League titles as Nations League delivers night of drama
Romelu Lukaku used a Nations League match to dial up the needle, jokingly accusing Gianluigi Donnarumma of owing him two Premier League titles. The quip was the latest bit of mischief from the striker, who clearly remains convinced history owes him a couple of league winners’ medals.
Elsewhere, Tony Pulis made it clear he wants the FA Cup his Stoke City side didn’t win in 2011. The 2011 final remains a sore point for the club, and Pulis’s renewed call suggests the pain of that Wembley defeat has not faded over the years.
Nations League results
On the pitch, the Nations League served up a dramatic night of action. France edged a topsy-turvy encounter with Belgium 3-2, while Northern Ireland slipped to a 2-0 home defeat against Hungary. Italy, meanwhile, endured a difficult start to their campaign against Belgium, having needed a good result badly after missing out on a third World Cup in a row and making a divisive choice of a new (old) manager.
As one observer put it, the Godts were against them – and when Belgium added a second, they didn’t Lukebakio.
