Villarreal sign Peter Gulacsi on two-year deal after 11 years at RB Leipzig
Villarreal Secure Gulacsi Signature
Villarreal have officially announced the signing of Peter Gulacsi from RB Leipzig, bringing an end to the goalkeeper's 11-year stint with the German club. The 36-year-old has committed to a two-year deal with the LaLiga side.
The transfer is reported to be worth approximately €2 million, with Gulacsi having joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg back in 2015. During his time in Germany, he made 362 appearances for the club, helping them achieve promotion to the Bundesliga in his debut season.
Impressive Bundesliga Record
Gulacsi's statistics during his Leipzig tenure speak to his quality between the posts. He made 269 appearances in the German top-flight and, since the start of the 2016-17 season, has kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Bundesliga with 94. He also recorded the fourth-most saves in that period with 664.
Emotional Farewell
In an emotional farewell video posted on social media, Gulacsi expressed his gratitude to Leipzig and its supporters.
"After eleven years, this farewell is really not easy for me. RB Leipzig was never just a club for me. Leipzig has become our second home, and the people here will always have a special place in my heart and ours."
Competition at Villarreal
At Villarreal, Gulacsi is expected to compete with Luiz Junior for the number one goalkeeper role. The Yellow Submarine finished third in LaLiga last season and will begin their 2026-27 league campaign with three consecutive away matches against Racing Santander, Atletico Madrid, and Alaves. Their first home fixture is scheduled for September 5 against Deportivo La Coruna under manager Inigo Perez's side.
