Manchester United challenge Barcelona for Racing Santander star Jorge Salinas

Barcelona face stiff competition in their pursuit of one of Spain's most promising young defensive talents, as Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly entered the race for Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas.

The 19-year-old defender is coming off a breakout 2025/26 campaign, during which he played a pivotal role in helping Racing secure promotion back to the top flight of Spanish football. Salinas made 33 appearances and contributed six assists, establishing himself as a versatile asset capable of playing both as a left-back and in a central defensive role.

While Barcelona have been keen on securing the stopper's signature, reports from Diario Sport, citing TEAMtalk, suggest that Manchester United have become a serious threat to the Catalan club's plans. The Red Devils have reportedly pivoted toward Salinas after struggling to land their primary left-back target, Lewis Hall, from Newcastle United.

The financial dynamics of the deal may favor the English side; it is understood that Manchester United are prepared to pay the €16 million release clause, a move that could leave Barcelona trailing in the race for the defensive jewel.

As one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Spain, Salinas has attracted interest from several leading La Liga clubs, but the combined interest of two European giants has now put the Racing Santander star firmly in the spotlight.
