Ferran Torres has opened the door to a potential summer exit from Barcelona after conceding that "in football, you never know" — comments that have further emboldened Paris Saint-Germain, who are now reportedly optimistic of completing a deal for the Spain forward as early as this week.

The Barcelona striker addressed the rumours surrounding his future for the first time on Monday during an appearance on the Today Show, one of the most popular television programmes in the United States. Torres was there primarily to discuss his match-winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina, but when asked about reports linking him with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, his answer was telling.

"I have a contract with Barcelona, but in football, you never know. I am waiting to make the right decision. I don't know yet. Dream club? I dream of being happy."

The "dream of being happy" line is particularly striking given the reporting that suggests Torres feels undervalued at the Catalan club. Barcelona's stance has been that the 26-year-old is not for sale unless he asks to leave — and these comments suggest he may be edging towards doing exactly that.

PSG growing in confidence

According to Matteo Moretto of MARCA, PSG are "optimistic" they can reach an agreement and complete the transfer quickly, with talks expected to accelerate this week. The reigning two-time European champions appear confident they have Torres' green light to get a deal done, even though Barcelona have yet to indicate an asking price, given their reluctance to negotiate.

The situation is complicated by Torres' contractual position. The forward has entered the final year of his deal at the Camp Nou, and while Barça would prefer to negotiate an extension, there is also the possibility that Torres is using PSG's interest as leverage to secure improved terms with the Catalans.

Barcelona braced for attacking reshuffle

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has already admitted the Blaugrana may need to sign a new forward this summer due to Torres' uncertain situation and the earlier departure of Robert Lewandowski. Losing Torres would leave a significant void: the Spaniard scored 21 goals during the 2025-26 campaign, the most he has managed in a single season in his career, and helped Barça retain their LaLiga crown.

Torres arrives at this crossroads on the back of the biggest moment of his career. His goal in last month's World Cup final against Argentina clinched the title for Spain, making him only the second substitute to score the winning goal in a World Cup final — after Germany's Mario Götze in 2014, a strike that also came against Argentina.
