Dzeko Commits to Schalke for Another Season

Edin Dzeko has signed a new one-year deal with Schalke, extending his stay at the club after helping them achieve promotion to the Bundesliga last season.

The 40-year-old striker spent the second half of last season with Schalke, making an immediate impact in Germany. Dzeko scored six goals and provided three assists in 11 games, six of which were starts.

Impressive Statistics

Following his debut in January, only Mohamed Ali Zoma (98.8) had a better minutes per goal ratio than Dzeko (99.8) among players to score at least three goals. In that same period, only Kenan Karaman (10) directly contributed to more goals than Dzeko (nine) for Schalke.

Previous Bundesliga Experience

Dzeko brings valuable top-flight experience to Schalke, having previously represented Wolfsburg between 2007 and 2011. During that stint, he scored 66 goals and registered 20 assists in 111 appearances in the Bundesliga, while also winning the league title in 2008-09.

In that championship-winning 2008-09 season, only Grafite, Dzeko's strike partner at Wolfsburg, recorded more goals (28) and direct goal contributions (33) than Dzeko (26 and 32).

Schalke's Bundesliga Return

Schalke will begin their 2026-27 Bundesliga campaign on August 30 away to Augsburg. Their first home game comes against reigning champions Bayern Munich six days later, providing a stern test for the newly-promoted side.

With Dzeko's experience and proven track record in German football, Schalke will be hoping the veteran striker can help them establish themselves back in the top flight.
