De Jong injury forces Flick's hand: Barcelona open door to midfield reinforcements
BARCELONA — Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has confirmed the club is open to strengthening the midfield this summer, amid the disruptive injury layoff of Frenkie de Jong and growing uncertainty over the future of Marc Chiesa.
Flick on squad strengthening
Speaking to the media, Flick said: "We're always open to strengthening the squad. The truth is we already have players in that position, but we'll see how things develop over the coming weeks."
After De Jong (and several others) played on in the World Cup despite niggling injuries, Barcelona have been forced into a thorough review of their transfer priorities. Recent days have seen the Blaugrana linked with a host of midfielders, including Manchester City's Rodri, Girona's Azzedine Ounahi and others.
