Manchester United open Bruno Fernandes contract talks after Galatasaray offer
Fernandes wants to remain at United
Manchester United are in contract talks with Bruno Fernandes after Galatasaray made a lucrative proposal worth approximately €20 million (£17.1 million) per year. Fernandes, 31, wants to stay at United and is discussing improved terms with the club.

Fernandes signed his existing contract in August 2024, and it runs until 2027 with an option for an additional year. A €65 million release clause that was available only to foreign clubs earlier this summer has expired. United maintain that they have received no contact from clubs and are not open to selling the Portugal international.
United view him as indispensable
Fernandes produced 21 Premier League assists last season, a competition record, and created four chances per game — more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues. He also averaged eight passes into the final third per match, the highest figure among United players.
His durability has reinforced his importance: Fernandes has appeared in 106 of United’s last 114 Premier League matches. The club’s priority is therefore to add players who can reduce his creative and physical workload rather than replace him.
United still want defensive and midfield additions
Manager Michael Carrick has said United would like to improve “one or two areas”. Left-back is the principal focus, with midfield also under consideration. Myles Lewis-Skelly has been offered to United through intermediaries, although he remains focused on establishing himself at Arsenal.
United have also considered Lewis Hall, but Newcastle United insist he is not for sale. Jorge Salinas represents a cheaper alternative, while Club Brugge say Joaquin Seys will not leave. A striker could be pursued if Joshua Zirkzee departs, with Juventus having held talks over the forward.
