Nepal's Kushal Bhurtel Joins Elite T20I Club with Consecutive Centuries

A Historic Feat for Nepal Cricket

Nepal's explosive opener Kushal Bhurtel has etched his name into the international cricket record books during the Asian Games men's cricket qualifiers. In a breathtaking display of power hitting, Bhurtel became only the 10th male cricketer in T20I history to register centuries in successive innings, joining an elite group that includes stars like Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Rilee Rossouw, and Phil Salt.

Dominance Against Malaysia

The milestone came during a clinical victory where Nepal thrashed Malaysia by 167 runs. After Malaysia opted to field first, Bhurtel and wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh dismantled the bowling attack, putting on a ferocious 134-run opening partnership that reached three figures before the seventh over was complete.

While Aasif provided early fireworks with 68 runs from just 24 balls, Bhurtel took the game to another level. He reached his half-century in 25 balls and converted it into a century just 19 deliveries later. Bhurtel eventually finished with a sensational 126 runs from 54 balls, a knock peppered with 14 boundaries and eight sixes.

A Streak of Destruction

This century follows an equally impressive performance against China in the opening group fixture. In that match, Bhurtel produced one of the most destructive overs in international cricket, launching all six deliveries for six against left-arm spinner Chen Zhou Yue.

Powered by Bhurtel's brilliance, Nepal amassed a staggering 275 runs. Malaysia, in response, offered little resistance and were bowled out for 108.

Looking Ahead

While Malaysia has already secured qualification for the 2026 Asian Games and will face Hong Kong in the semi-finals, Nepal continues its quest for gold. Nepal is set to take on Oman in their next encounter, carrying the momentum of Bhurtel's historic form.

In the span of just four days, Bhurtel has transformed from a regional standout to a global record-breaker, delivering one of the most explosive batting displays seen in associate cricket.
