Duan Jansen gets first senior South Africa opportunity

Duan Jansen, the twin brother of South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen, has earned his maiden senior call-up for the Proteas’ upcoming white-ball tour of Namibia. The all-rounder could make his international debut during a tour that includes a T20I tri-series and a historic three-match ODI series.

The 15-member squad will be led by experienced spinner Bjorn Fortuin. South Africa will first compete in a T20I tri-series against Namibia and Zimbabwe in Windhoek from August 28 to September 6, before facing Namibia in three ODIs from September 9 to 13.

Domestic form earns Jansen his chance

Jansen’s selection follows an impressive 2025/26 domestic season. He was named Division 1 One Day Cup Player of the Year and helped the Titans win the title, scoring an unbeaten 61 in the final against the Lions.

Eathan Bosch is the other uncapped T20I selection, while Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann and Nqobani Mokoena have received their first ODI call-ups. Nationally contracted players Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi and Kwena Maphaka will add further experience to the group.

South Africa target continuity and greater depth

Coach Shukri Conrad said South Africa’s decision to use one squad for both formats would provide continuity and valuable international exposure. He described Jansen as “a quality all-rounder” who had also shown strong character for the Titans.

Conrad also backed Fortuin’s leadership, saying the spinner is an experienced player and proven leader who has successfully captained the Lions. The coach said the first-ever bilateral ODI series between South Africa and Namibia carried added significance as South Africa continue building towards next year’s World Cup.

The Proteas are scheduled to leave Johannesburg for Windhoek on August 25. The ODI series will be the first bilateral 50-over contest between the two neighbouring countries.
