Raphinha's El Clásico Heartbreak and Barcelona's Injury Woes Ahead of Real Madrid Clash

FC Barcelona is gearing up for the highly anticipated El Clásico against arch-rivals Real Madrid, but the team faces significant challenges due to a spate of injuries, most notably the absence of star winger Raphinha.

The 28-year-old Brazilian international has been ruled out of the crucial fixture after suffering a relapse of his hamstring injury. This setback is particularly frustrating as Raphinha was reportedly on the verge of returning to full fitness after a previous muscular problem. His absence is now confirmed for at least four upcoming matches across all competitions, including the clash against Real Madrid, Elche, Club Brugge, and Celta Vigo. This lengthy sideline spell undoubtedly deals a blow to Barcelona's ambitions during a busy schedule.

Despite his personal disappointment, Raphinha demonstrated remarkable leadership by visiting the Ciutat Esportiva to offer encouragement to his teammates before their final training session. This gesture underscores his commitment and influence within the team's captaincy group, even as he is forced to watch the high-stakes match from home.

Adding to Barcelona's woes, defender Andreas Christensen has also been excluded from the squad due to illness. Manager Hansi Flick deemed the Danish international unfit for the El Clásico, despite his initial return to training earlier in the week. Other key players like Dani Olmo, Gavi, Joan García, and Robert Lewandowski also remain unavailable due to various injuries.

However, there is a glimmer of hope for the Catalan giants. Key players Jules Koundé and Ferran Torres have both returned to training and could potentially feature in the squad. Coach Marcus Sorg addressed their potential involvement, stating, "We'll try to get Ferran on the pitch, but we'll decide [on Sunday]. Jules trained [on Saturday], and we have to wait and see how he reacts after training. We haven't decided on the starting eleven yet." Frenkie de Jong has also recovered from his respective issues and is included.

In response to the injury crisis, Barcelona's academy talents are stepping up, with full-backs Jofre Torrents and Xavi Espart included in the squad for the trip to Madrid. They are joined by Toni Fernández and Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernández, who have recently earned starting roles in previous matches. These young players will be eager to make an impact on the biggest stage.
