Hull City have once again rewritten their financial history, breaking their club-record transfer fee for the second time this summer. The Tigers have confirmed the double signing of left-back Nobel Mendy from Rayo Vallecano and teenage center-back Lucas Herrington from the Colorado Rapids.

Record-Breaking Spending

While the club did not disclose the exact fee for Nobel Mendy, sources confirm it exceeds the reported £20m paid for Konstantinos Tzolakis last week. The 21-year-old Mendy joins on a five-year contract after an impressive 2025-26 campaign with Rayo Vallecano, where he made 28 appearances and played a pivotal role in helping the Spanish side reach the Conference League final.

Mendy expressed his excitement about joining the English top flight, stating: "I have wanted to play in the Premier League since I was little, so it's a great challenge to face, and I am ready for it."

The Rise of Lucas Herrington

Joining Mendy is Lucas Herrington, whose move from the MLS represents one of the most expensive deals in the history of that league. Sources indicate the deal is worth up to $23 million, a massive windfall for the Colorado Rapids.

Herrington, who turns 19 in September, has experienced a meteoric rise. After debuting for Brisbane Roar at 17, he moved to Colorado and quickly became a mainstay in their defense. He also made history this summer for Australia, becoming the youngest player to start a knockout match for the nation at the FIFA World Cup.

Colorado Rapids president Pádraig Smith praised the player's trajectory: "I think his ceiling is huge. He can play at the very highest level. He will prove MLS players are ready to take that step."

Premier League Ambitions

These arrivals mark Hull's eighth addition as they prepare for their first Premier League campaign since 2016-17. The club's recruitment drive has already seen the arrival of players including Jack Butland, Oscar Zambrano, Matt Targett, and Jens Hjerto-Dahl.

Owner Acun Ilicali has been vocal about the club's ambitions via social media. While confirming the arrivals of Mendy and Herrington, Ilicali also hinted that a move for Red Bull Salzburg's Lucas Gourna-Douath is nearing completion.
