The future of Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani remains unresolved after his €25 million transfer to RB Leipzig collapsed over the weekend, with the failed move potentially re-opening the door for Barcelona to land a long-time target.

Leipzig had agreed a deal worth €25 million with Hoffenheim for the 24-year-old forward, but medical examinations revealed a “long-term” physical issue that scared the Red Bull club away from completing the transfer.

Hoffenheim dispute Leipzig’s version of events, however, insisting that Asllani’s health problems are a thing of the past. The Bundesliga side point to the forward’s impressive availability record last season, when he featured in 35 of the club’s 36 matches across all competitions.

Asllani has dealt with injuries earlier in his career, including a spell of knee inflammation that had him fearing for his future in the game a few years ago. But the striker has been healthy and available for the better part of the past two seasons.

The news comes as a boost to Barcelona, who have maintained a long-standing interest in Asllani. The Kosovo-born forward has not been shy about his desire to join the Catalan club, and he represents an affordable market opportunity for a young player still on the rise.
