Everton owners The Friedkin Group explore sale of club less than two years after £400m takeover
Everton's owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), are exploring the sale of a controlling interest in the club, less than two years after completing their takeover.
A statement released on Friday confirmed the American group is assessing "new investment options" for the Merseyside club, including a potential sale of the controlling stake. TFG bought Everton from Farhad Moshiri in December 2024 in a deal believed to be worth in excess of £400m, ending the turbulent era of the former owner, and oversaw the completion and opening of the club's long-promised new stadium last year.

What the owners said
"The Friedkin Group is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest," the statement read.
"When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch. The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the club's future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters."
The group added: "With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton."
Only the 'right stewards' will be entertained
TFG signalled it would be selective about any prospective new investors or buyers, insisting it will "only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the club forward and build on the momentum that has been established."
The announcement opens the door to fresh investment — or entirely new owners — for a club that was mired in financial uncertainty on and off the pitch when TFG arrived in December 2024, but which now has a completed stadium and, in the group's words, an established momentum to build upon.
