Cincinnati rebuff Hull's $15m-plus Denkey bid as Rangers eye Portland's Kelsy

FC Cincinnati rejected a bid from Hull City for Togo international forward Kevin Denkey, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic. The sources spoke under condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

The bid was in the region of $15 million plus $5 million in add-ons, sources say. That figure is a nonstarter for Cincy, the sources add. Denkey was acquired for $16.1 million a year and a half ago.

Further bids could arrive over the next few weeks for Denkey, who has 33 goals in 61 appearances for Cincy. The 25-year-old was the Belgian league's top scorer in 2023-24. If Denkey departs, Cincy would open a DP spot.

Meanwhile, Rangers FC submitted a bid in the region of $10 million to the Portland Timbers for Venezuela international forward Kevin Kelsy, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic. Portland isn't looking to lose the player this summer and Kelsy isn't pushing to leave for the Rangers bid, sources say.

Kelsy, 22, has nine goals and two assists this season. He has been in strong form since the league returned from the World Cup break and will get a chance to impress under new head coach Martí Cifuentes. Kelsy has six caps for Venezuela and has featured for FC Cincinnati and Shakhtar Donetsk in his young career.
