Barcelona move six points clear after Atletico Madrid stun Real Madrid

Atletico victory opens gap for Barcelona

Barcelona have strengthened their position at the top of La Liga after Atletico Madrid defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in a fractious derby on Sunday.

The result was welcomed by Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, who reacted to a social media post from Marc Pubill after the match. Pubill had shared a photograph of himself tackling Kylian Mbappe, prompting Yamal to respond with a series of emojis.

Real Madrid’s defeat leaves Barcelona six points clear of their title rivals. Barcelona are also five points ahead of Atletico Madrid in second place and remain the only team in the division with a perfect record after seven matches.

Barcelona return after international break

Atletico Madrid have suffered one defeat and one draw, while Real Madrid have already lost twice in the 2026-27 campaign. La Liga will now pause for a three-week international break.

When the competition resumes, Barcelona will host Getafe, Atletico Madrid will travel to Alaves and Real Madrid will face Villarreal.
