Martin Zubimendi Dismisses Real Madrid Links, Focused on Arsenal Title Push

Zubimendi Shuts Down Real Madrid Speculation

Martin Zubimendi in action for Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi has firmly dismissed ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid, stating that the Spanish giants already have "more than enough players" to succeed. The Spanish international, who joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad last July, has emerged as a key figure in Mikel Arteta's midfield this season.

Speaking to Cadena Ser radio, Zubimendi responded to suggestions that Madrid still maintain interest in his services: "I don't think so. Madrid have more than enough players to do well, so no."

Establishing Himself at Arsenal

Zubimendi has quickly become an integral part of Arsenal's midfield setup, starting 23 Premier League games this season - more than any other Arsenal outfielder. His partnership with Declan Rice has been particularly impressive, providing Arteta's side with both defensive solidity and attacking impetus.

The statistics underline Zubimendi's importance to the Gunners. His four Premier League goals place him joint-third in Arsenal's scoring charts, behind only Viktor Gyokeres (six) and Leandro Trossard (five). Additionally, he ranks second in the squad for both successful passes (1,227) and passes into the final third (373), demonstrating his influential role in Arsenal's build-up play.

Title Ambitions Take Priority

With Arsenal currently sitting six points clear at the top of the Premier League table after three successive runner-up finishes, Zubimendi's focus remains firmly on ending the club's wait for a league title.

"We have taken the first step but we are aware that there are three very important months ahead," Zubimendi said. "This is about winning it. The standings are great but we will see who wins. When you feel important and you are playing, it is truly comforting."

The midfielder's commitment comes despite Arsenal also reaching the EFL Cup final earlier this week, showing the club's determination to compete on multiple fronts.

Concern for Injured Teammate

Zubimendi also expressed concern for his former Real Sociedad and Spain teammate Mikel Merino, who suffered a right foot injury that could sideline him for several months. The timing is particularly unfortunate with Spain's World Cup opener against Cape Verde scheduled for June 15.

"I know first-hand that he will do his all [to recover for the World Cup], I hope so," Zubimendi said of Merino. "It pains me to see him sidelined because I know how professional he is and how much he wants to help us on the pitch. I know he's the one who's hurting the most, but the damage his injury has done to the team is significant."

Zubimendi's public dismissal of Real Madrid interest combined with his clear commitment to Arsenal's title ambitions will come as welcome news to Gunners fans who have seen their midfielder establish himself as one of the Premier League's most influential midfielders this season.
