Brighton owner Tony Bloom sets sights on major trophy after stunning start

Bloom raises Brighton’s ambitions

Brighton owner Tony Bloom believes the club can challenge for major silverware after a remarkable opening to the 2026-27 season.

Brighton players celebrating during their strong start to the season

The Seagulls entered the international break third in the Premier League with 10 points from five matches, having recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat. They have also secured European football in the Conference League after winning their play-off, while their continental campaign begins next month.

Brighton’s cup progress has added further momentum. They overturned a 2-0 deficit inside the first 10 minutes to beat Manchester United 3-2 in the EFL Cup and reach the fourth round. Their latest statement victory came against the reigning Premier League champions, as Brighton defeated Arsenal 3-0.

“Anything is possible,” Bloom told Sky Sports. “We’re after a major trophy, so obviously any major trophy would be a massive achievement for the football club.”

Bloom acknowledged the financial advantage enjoyed by the Premier League’s biggest clubs but pointed to Leicester City’s title triumph as proof that an outsider can still defy expectations.

“The Premier League is the bread and butter, and we’re really optimistic that we can at least finish in the European places if not a bit higher than that,” he said.

Goals and key players drive the surge

Brighton are the Premier League’s top scorers so far, with 16 goals in their first five matches—their best opening tally since Manchester City scored 19 at the same stage in 2022-23.

Pascal Gross has been directly involved in six league goals, scoring three and supplying three assists. He scored and assisted in the win over Arsenal, giving him the highest goal involvement total in the division at this stage.

Bloom backs Fabian Hurzeler

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler has also received strong backing from Bloom. Hurzeler, whose contract runs until 2029, guided Brighton to eighth place last season and is now overseeing the club’s push on multiple fronts.

Bloom said he has “huge confidence” in Hurzeler and the squad, while noting that Brighton had 10 players unavailable for much of August and expect several important absentees to return after the international break.

“We’ve got to get the process right. We’ve got to prepare properly and always look to improve in every aspect of what we do,” Bloom said. “If we consistently do that, we have a very good chance of having a successful season.”

He added that Hurzeler had handled difficult spells and pressure during his first two seasons, insisting the coach was gaining valuable experience and was capable of taking Brighton “from strength to strength.”
