Delhi Premier League rocked by fresh fixing allegation as Vansh Bedi reports approach to DDCA
DDCA flags corrupt approach, awaits BCCI guidance
Controversy has engulfed the recently concluded third season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) after wicketkeeper-batter Vansh Bedi, who played for runners-up Central Delhi Kings, reported an alleged "fixing approach" by a cricketer from a neighbouring state.
According to sources, the young keeper- batter promptly flagged the approach to the Anti-Corruption Wing, and the complaint was later documented as well. The alleged approach is said to have come from a player based in Uttar Pradesh, who was simultaneously featuring in a T20 league in his home state.
"Vansh Bedi promptly reported a corrupt approach to the Anti-Corruption wing from a player from Uttar Pradesh, who was also playing a T20 league in the state. We have attached SLOs with every team this year and all our arrangements have been watertight," said DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma.
Tehelka sting and BCCI involvement
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has formally written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking advice on how to handle the fixing claims stemming from a sting operation conducted by investigative outlet Tehelka.
"We have written to the BCCI and will await their guidance," the DDCA secretary added. TimesofIndia.com has reached out to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia for a comment.
Insiders in Delhi cricket corridors believe there is more to the matter than meets the eye, though DDCA officials are expected to act only after receiving direction from the national governing body.
Context and background
Central Delhi Kings finished as runners-up this season, losing to South Delhi Superstarz in the title clash. Prior to this edition, Bedi played for Purani Dilli 6 and also had a stint with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
The development marks the latest integrity scare in Indian domestic cricket, with the DDCA insisting its anti-corruption protocols — including the presence of Standard Liaison Officers (SLOs) with every team — remain watertight as the association awaits the BCCI's next steps.
