Aston Villa have added another defender to their squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign, bringing in Aaron Wan-Bissaka on a season-long loan from West Ham.

The right-back will play for Villa during the 2026-27 season, with the club having a conditional obligation to buy for a reported £18m next year. Wan-Bissaka becomes Villa's sixth signing of the window as they look to rebuild following a summer of significant departures after their Europa League triumph in May.

A Proven Premier League Campaigner

Wan-Bissaka made 65 appearances for West Ham after joining from Manchester United in 2024 and was named Hammer of the Year in his first season at the London Stadium. However, he could not help the Hammers avoid relegation from the top-flight last term as they finished 18th.

Despite West Ham's struggles, Wan-Bissaka's individual performances stood out. He made 25 Premier League appearances last season, yet only Konstantinos Mavropanos (49) made more interceptions than his 40, while he also won 23 of his 33 tackles in the competition — underlining his reputation as one of the league's finest one-on-one defenders.

From Old Trafford to Villa Park

Wan-Bissaka spent five seasons with Manchester United before joining West Ham, making 190 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions. During his time at Old Trafford, he won both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup and made 15 appearances in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old also featured on the international stage, playing in all four of DR Congo's matches at the World Cup.

Villa's Rebuild Continues

Villa have seen a number of big names depart following their Europa League triumph in May, making Wan-Bissaka's arrival a key part of their summer reconstruction. The defender's signing takes their total of new arrivals to six as they look to strengthen across the pitch.

Villa begin their new Premier League campaign against Brighton on Sunday, with Wan-Bissaka expected to be in contention for his debut.
