Atletico supporters escalate protest against Alvarez

Atletico Madrid fans have made their feelings about Julian Alvarez clear after a turbulent summer in which the Argentina international admitted he wanted to leave the club and has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.

The saga is getting ugly. Supporters have put up signs around Atletico’s training ground reading “Julian Out” and others showing his No. 19 shirt crossed out. Insulting chants aimed at Alvarez were also heard in midweek when Atletico opened their La Liga campaign against Malaga.

Alvarez was not involved in the match against Malaga but could return to the squad at the weekend against Villarreal.

Barcelona interest cools as Atletico hold firm

In the meantime, there has been speculation that Atletico have opened the door to Alvarez leaving the club for Arsenal, but the Argentina international has made it clear he still only wants to sign for Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are believed to still be keen to sign Alvarez but are now considering moving on to other targets due to Atletico’s continued refusal to negotiate a transfer.
