Return to Q3 for Hulkenberg

Nico Hulkenberg has secured a P10 starting position for the Hungarian Grand Prix, marking a positive return to the final qualifying session (Q3). For the Audi driver, this placement provides a critical opportunity to secure his first points of the season, particularly given the difficulty of overtaking at the Hungaroring.

Mixed Emotions After Qualifying

Despite describing the session as "trouble-free," Hulkenberg was candid about the deficit in pace compared to his competitors. His final time of 1m 18.686s left him roughly four-tenths of a second behind Arvid Lindblad of Racing Bulls, who claimed P9.

Reflecting on the performance, Hulkenberg stated: "Pretty much it was trouble-free. It’s nice for once to have a clean one. I feel like we maximised it. Very positive to be in Q3."

However, the gap grew more concerning as he looked further up the grid, with a 0.830s deficit to Red Bull's Isack Hadjar in P8. "I’m not so happy about the distance, the gap to P9, and then from P9 actually to P8 and then onwards again," Hulkenberg admitted. "It’s bigger than what we thought and expected but I feel we maximised what we had, so that’s all we can do."

Outlook for the Race

Audi currently finds itself at a disadvantage in the standings, having scored only 10 points so far this season. While the team saw success at the Belgian Grand Prix where Gabriel Bortoleto finished P8 as the 'best of the rest,' Hulkenberg is hoping to replicate that competitiveness this weekend.

When asked if Audi can challenge teams like Racing Bulls over the full race distance, Hulkenberg remained optimistic: "I think so. I think over a race distance or in the long runs, we should be competitive. I think we can challenge them."
