Conceição punches bench and storms off as Juventus fight back to beat Celta 2-1
Juve dig deep in Vigo
Juventus climbed to the top of their Europa League group with a 2-1 comeback win at Celta Vigo, but the victory was overshadowed by Francisco Conceição's furious reaction to being substituted. The winger punched the bench and walked straight down the tunnel after being withdrawn, prompting a blunt response from coach Roberto Spalletti.
"He'd better be unhappy with himself," Spalletti told La Gazzetta dello Sport. In Corriere dello Sport he added: "Chico? I hope he was angry with himself; otherwise, we'll have to talk about it." Conceição himself insisted afterwards: "No row."
On the pitch, Juve suffered early, made mistakes and fell behind before a "super second half" turned the tie around. Nick Woltemade levelled, finishing after an assist from Marcos Alonso, before Randal Kolo Muani struck the winner — the Frenchman having been introduced alongside Nico for the irritable Conceição and Alajbegovic. "Yes, we work well together," the goalscorers' understanding was summed up.
The result, described by Tuttosport as a "Lucio coup" in Vigo, saw Juventus recover from a goal down to claim top spot in the group with a 2-1 scoreline.
