Rocky Flintoff announces himself with record-breaking Lancashire display

Rocky Flintoff, the 18-year-old son of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, scored his first senior professional century as Lancashire thrashed Somerset by 174 runs in the One-Day Cup to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

The teenager smashed 123 off just 76 balls, plundering 10 fours and seven sixes, in a dazzling knock that powered Lancashire to a record 443 — their highest total in List A cricket and the first time the Red Rose county had crossed 400 in the format.

Flintoff shared a standout 214-run partnership with opener Keaton Jennings, who top-scored with 156, as Lancashire piled on the runs before bowling Somerset out to seal a convincing 174-run victory on Tuesday.

High praise from his batting partner

Jennings, who watched the teenager's fireworks from the other end, was full of admiration for the youngster's maturity and talent.

"When you are developing a few grey hairs, it's great to be out there batting with a young player of such talent. Rocky knows his family can't score his runs for him. He has to go out there and do it himself and there is every sign he is going to do just that. He has a fantastic physique for a cricketer and a good head on young shoulders. Today he used his feet well and played a fantastic knock."

Debut effort on the senior stage

The century was the 18-year-old's first in senior professional cricket, adding to a CV that already includes appearances for England Under-19s and the England Lions. The win sends Lancashire into the quarter-finals, where they will face Ben Stokes' Durham.
