Experienced pace attack restored

Australia captain Pat Cummins has confirmed the playing XI for the opening Test against Bangladesh, which begins Thursday at Marrara Stadium in Darwin, with the second Test scheduled for Mackay from 22 to 26 August.

The biggest talking point is the return of Josh Hazlewood to the specialist pace attack. Hazlewood gets the nod ahead of Scott Boland and will line up with Cummins and Mitchell Starc, while Nathan Lyon returns after recovering from a hamstring injury to lead the spin department.

Josh Inglis misses out on the final XI and Boland is left in the wider squad as Australia opt for experience for the series opener.

Weatherald handed Test debut

Jake Weatherald is set for his Test debut and will open alongside Travis Head. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith follow in the middle order, while Cameron Green and Beau Webster are included as pace-bowling all-rounders to add depth.

Alex Carey will take the gloves with Cummins leading the side from No. 8. The XI balances three premier quicks with Lyon and gives Australia extra batting options through Green and Webster.
