Kaval Desai Says Blinkit Earnings Story Spread to 'Not 3, But a Ton' of Media Pages as 19-Delivery Shift Goes Viral

From Three Outlets to 'a Ton'

Kaval Desai, an LLB student who shared his first-day earnings as a Blinkit delivery partner, has reacted to the reach of his own story after it was picked up by a wave of media outlets and Instagram pages. In an update on X, Desai said the coverage went far beyond the three media organisations he had initially credited, noting that it amounted to "not 3, but a ton."

He said he only realised how widely the story had travelled after searching for his own name and experience on Google, and shared a search link showing a long list of results tied to his shift.

Earlier, Desai had expressed happiness at having his story featured for the first time and thanked those who covered it. In his latest post he also tagged two users, joking that he had joined their club now that he, too, had drawn media attention.

The Numbers Behind the Shift

Desai had taken up part-time delivery work to support his expenses while pursuing his law degree, and the figures from his first outing are what propelled the story into the public eye.

He reported completing 19 orders in approximately six hours and 30 minutes, covering around 51 km of delivery distance, excluding the journeys back. His earnings comprised Rs 508, including a Rs 75 incentive, with a further Rs 100 bonus for meeting a target, bringing the total to Rs 608.

Desai said he used an Ather electric scooter charged at home, meaning he incurred no charging costs during the shift — a detail that drew scrutiny from readers comparing gross earnings with the running costs typical of petrol-powered delivery bikes.

He stopped working when he needed to return to his studies and when his scooter's battery was running low. He had earlier shared that he earned Rs 149 after completing six deliveries in two hours, an account that set the stage for the fuller breakdown of his first day.

Why a Student's First Day Went Viral

Desai has described the gig as a way to manage his expenses without setting his studies aside, framing the delivery work as a supplement rather than a replacement for his degree.

His account prompted widespread discussion among social media users about the financial pressures students face and whether delivery work can provide a sustainable source of supplementary income. Some users shared their own experiences in the gig economy, while others suggested alternative part-time jobs as a better fit for students juggling coursework.

The latest twist in Desai's story moves it beyond the arithmetic of a single shift: he is now reacting to the discovery that a simple search of his own name and story returns pages of coverage, turning one student's six-and-a-half-hour shift into an ongoing conversation about the economics of part-time work in India.
