As the 2026 Formula 1 season progresses, the driver market is once again becoming a focal point for fans and analysts. With several key contracts expiring and performance clauses looming, the landscape for the 2027 grid is already beginning to take shape.

The Powerhouses: Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren

At the front of the grid, stability is the theme for several top drivers, though some caveats remain. Max Verstappen is signed with Red Bull until the end of 2028; however, his future is tied to the team's ability to provide a winning car. It is understood that performance clauses exist which could allow the Dutchman to exit if Red Bull cannot remain competitive.

Over at Ferrari, Charles Leclerc is secured until at least 2028, following a deal penned in June 2026. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who made the historic switch to Maranello in 2025, is confirmed until at least 2027. Reports suggest Hamilton also holds a unilateral option for 2028, potentially extending his tenure with the Scuderia.

McLaren boasts one of the most stable pairings on the grid. Lando Norris is tied to the team until the end of 2027, while Oscar Piastri has signed a multi-year extension that keeps him in orange until 2028.

Mercedes and the New Guard

Mercedes has focused on a blend of experience and youth. George Russell is believed to be signed until at least 2027, despite official announcements only covering 2026. Beside him, Kimi Antonelli is confirmed for 2026, with the team viewing the Italian as a long-term star of the future.

Mid-Field Stability and Uncertainty

The mid-field presents a more volatile picture:

• Aston Martin: Fernando Alonso is signed until 2026, but as the oldest driver on the grid, questions about his retirement persist. Lance Stroll's future remains secure as long as his father, Lawrence Stroll, owns the team.
• Williams: Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz are both confirmed through 2026, with Sainz holding options to extend.
• Alpine: Pierre Gasly has a long-term deal running until 2028. Conversely, Franco Colapinto is only confirmed for 2026 and will need to elevate his performance to secure his spot for 2027.
• Haas: Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon are both signed through 2026, but neither has been confirmed for 2027, making their inter-team battle critical.

New Entrants and Returns

The arrival of Cadillac has seen the return of veteran presence. Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas are both understood to have signed multi-year deals that keep them with the American outfit until at least the end of 2027.

Meanwhile, Audi's lineup with Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto is currently set through 2026, with the team likely keen to retain the young Bortoleto as he continues to develop.
