Flick backs Lamine Yamal for Ballon d’Or after Barcelona rout Feyenoord
Flick makes Ballon d’Or case for Yamal
Hansi Flick has backed Lamine Yamal to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or after Barcelona swept aside Feyenoord 5-1 in the Champions League at Camp Nou.

Yamal was among Barcelona’s attacking threats on another prolific night for the Catalan club, and Flick was unequivocal when asked about the teenager’s Ballon d’Or prospects.
“He’s my player, of course I believe that. He deserves to win the Ballon d’Or. He’s an exceptional, special player. Anyone who watches his matches knows he deserves it,” Flick told reporters.
Raphinha praised after another brace
Flick also singled out Raphinha after the Brazilian scored twice to continue his outstanding start to the campaign. The Barcelona coach highlighted the forward’s energy and his ability to attack from deep.
“With Raphinha, his intensity is great; when he attacks from deep and picks up that pass from Pedri, he’s great,” Flick said. He also noted that Dani Olmo offered greater control when operating in the same position, while Yamal’s free-kick provided another positive moment.
Barcelona still seeking improvement
Although Barcelona have made a perfect start to the season and scored five goals again, Flick insisted the team cannot afford to stop improving.
The German coach praised the quality of the squad’s training, describing the session after the 5-0 win over Valencia as the team’s best of the year. He said the players were successfully maintaining their level while adapting and making changes.
“I like what I see, but I also see situations we need to improve,” Flick said. “The most important thing, as I say, is training. Because that’s where you improve. Then, you get to the matches, you analyze them, and you try to do even better.”
