Disappointing Hundred Auction 2026 for Pakistani Cricketers: Haris Rauf Unsold, Shaheen Afridi Withdraws

Pakistani Cricketers Face Setbacks in The Hundred 2026 Auction

The 2026 auction for The Hundred, England's popular domestic T20 league, brought disappointing results for several Pakistani cricketers. In the men's category, fast bowler Haris Rauf went unsold, while ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi made a late withdrawal just before bidding commenced. These developments highlight the challenges posed by limited overseas slots and scheduling conflicts for international players.

Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi in cricket action

Shaheen Afridi, listed in the Tier 1 fast bowlers category, had previously played for Welsh Fire in the tournament. However, he joined four other overseas players—Quinton de Kock, Sunil Narine, AM Ghazanfar, and Peter Siddle—in pulling out shortly before the auction. The English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed these withdrawals, attributing them likely to clashes with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and other international commitments.

Despite Afridi's absence, 13 other Pakistani players remained in the men's auction pool. Haris Rauf, however, failed to attract any bids, underscoring the cautious approach teams took with their limited overseas allocations.

The situation was even more challenging in the women's auction, held a day earlier. None of the Pakistani women secured contracts. Notable players like left-handed batter Muneeba Ali, fast bowler Diana Baig, left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal, and national captain Fatima Sana entered with a base price of £15,000 but received no offers.

Recent scrutiny over Pakistani participation in The Hundred prompted a joint statement from the ECB and the eight franchises, emphasizing that selections are based on "performance, availability, and the needs of each team." This year's reduced Pakistani presence in both men's and women's categories illustrates how scheduling issues and spot limitations can impact franchise decisions.
