KKR Rope in Blessing Muzarabani for IPL 2026

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have secured the services of Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani for the upcoming IPL 2026 season, marking a significant addition to their pace attack. The 6 feet 8 inches tall pacer has reportedly given up his Pakistan Super League (PSL) contract to join KKR, opting for the bigger stage of the Indian Premier League.

Muzarabani, who was initially unsold in the PSL auction last month, was later picked up by Islamabad United as a replacement for West Indies' Shamar Joseph. However, with his eyes set on the IPL, he has made the switch, reinforcing KKR’s fast bowling department ahead of the new season.

Blessing Muzarabani was part of RCB's title-winning squad in IPL 2025 as a temporary replacement player

The fast bowler recently made a strong impression during the recently-concluded ODI World Cup in the subcontinent, where Zimbabwe advanced to the Super Eights stage. Across six matches in India and Sri Lanka, Muzarabani claimed 13 wickets — the joint-third highest in the tournament, trailing only Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy, who took 14 each. His consistency and ability to perform on Indian pitches make him a strategic asset for KKR.

Since his international debut in 2017, Muzarabani has been a key figure in Zimbabwe’s bowling attack across formats. In 89 T20 Internationals, he has picked up 106 wickets at an economy rate of 7.24, showcasing his ability to maintain pressure in the shortest format. Over the years, he has played in various franchise leagues worldwide, including the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), ILT20, PSL, and England’s Vitality Blast, gaining valuable experience.

This move marks Muzarabani’s second stint in the IPL. He previously served as a temporary replacement for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the latter stages of IPL 2025, ultimately being part of their title-winning squad. His familiarity with Indian conditions and tournament pressure will be crucial for KKR.

Muzarabani is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on March 17 to join the squad for preparations. His signing comes at a time when KKR had to terminate Mustafizur Rahman’s contract earlier this year, despite acquiring him for INR 9.20 Crore. Additionally, their other high-profile fast bowler, Mathesha Pathirana, is still recovering from an injury sustained during the T20 World Cup and remains in rehabilitation.

With Muzarabani on board, KKR look to solidify their pace attack ahead of their season opener on March 29 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. The move signals their intent to build a balanced and formidable unit capable of challenging for the title in IPL 2026.
