Bhilwara accountant arrested for staging robbery to buy Scorpio SUV

Accountant stages highway robbery to fund SUV purchase

Bhilwara: Balkishan, an accountant working for an irrigation department contractor near the Kota–Udaipur highway ahead of Bojunda in the Chittorgarh Sadar police station area, left Bassi for Dhariyawad on a bike on Monday carrying Rs 19,83,000.

About 10.30 am Monday, the police station received information that three people with covered faces pushed him down and robbed the money from the bag he was carrying. A police team reached the spot and, suspecting that the robbery had been staged, arrested Balkishan.

Police probe finds fabrication

Chittorgarh SP Dharmendra Singh said the robbery report was received Monday morning and, given the seriousness of the case, Chittorgarh Sadar SHO Prem Singh and the district special police team inspected the scene.

"Based on evidence found there, police concluded the incident was fabricated and that Balkishan had hidden the money, broken his mobile phone and thrown it away," the SP said.

During questioning, Balkishan admitted he staged the robbery to buy a Scorpio around Diwali. He said he hid the cash in bushes near a culvert and threw his smashed phone across the road.

On his information, police recovered the entire amount from the hiding spot. His broken mobile phone and the bike were also recovered.
