Rajasthan captain Mahipal Lomror joins Surrey for County Championship run-in
Surrey have moved to strengthen their County Championship squad for the decisive final stretch of the season, signing Rajasthan captain Mahipal Lomror for their remaining six matches.

The arrival of the 26-year-old middle-order batter fills a double void for Surrey, who are without the services of Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence. Jacks continues to recover from an ankle injury, while Lawrence has been recalled to the England squad for the Pakistan Tests.
Lomror brings considerable pedigree to the Oval. Across 63 first-class matches he averages 42.62, has an unbeaten triple-century to his name and has claimed 62 wickets, including a five-wicket haul, courtesy of his left-arm spin. He will be reunited at Surrey with his Rajasthan teammate Rahul Chahar.
Lomror expressed his excitement at the move, saying: “I’m happy to join Surrey for the remainder of the season. Playing in the County Championship is a huge opportunity for me to challenge myself in a new environment and learn from an experienced group.”
His recent domestic form underlines his value: last season he was the second-highest run-getter for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy, averaging 48.66 with two centuries to his name.
Surrey’s director of men’s cricket, Alec Stewart, explained the thinking behind the signing. “With the busy schedule of international, franchise and domestic cricket around the world, I’m pleased to add Mahipal Lomror to our available squad of players,” he said.
“With the loss of Lawrence and Jacks’ ability to bowl spin, it was important to add a batter who can bowl some overs of spin when required for the final stage of the season. We look forward to welcoming him to the dressing room ahead of this week’s match with Nottinghamshire.”
Surrey currently sit seventh in Division One with one win and two losses, and will hope Lomror’s arrival injects momentum into their push up the table.
