Arsenal Make Offer for Mexico Wonderkid Gilberto Mora as Elite Clubs Circle
Arsenal Move First in Race for Tijuana Prodigy
Arsenal have made an offer to sign Mexico midfielder Gilberto Mora, the 17-year-old Club Tijuana playmaker who is fast becoming one of the most coveted teenagers in world football.
According to reports, Mora has a release clause of £21.2m written into his contract in Mexico, a figure that has drawn interest from a remarkable list of suitors including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Benfica. Arsenal have now moved to try to steal a march on that queue by tabling a formal offer.
The scale of the competition reflects Mora's rapid rise. Earlier this autumn the teenager became Mexico's youngest ever goalscorer when he found the net in a 1-1 friendly draw with Colombia, a milestone that pushed him to the front of the transfer market's watch list.
Numbers Behind the Hype
Mora's output for Tijuana this season has underlined why Europe's giants are circling. He has registered five goals and one assist across seven Liga MX appearances in the 2026-27 campaign, an extraordinary return for a player operating as an attacking midfielder at his age.
Prior reporting on 28 September noted that both Barcelona and Real Madrid were monitoring Mora closely after his historic goal for Mexico, with the two LaLiga powers continuing to track his development. Coverage on 2 October added Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Benfica to a growing list of clubs keeping tabs on the 17-year-old.
Whether Arsenal's offer proves decisive remains to be seen, but the north London club have now made concrete their interest in a player many regard as one of the brightest prospects in the Americas.
