Larin sets frightening Golden Boot pace as Lankshear and Toure give chase
The race for the Championship Golden Boot is already taking shape, and Southampton's Cyle Larin is setting what BBC Sport calls "a frightening pace". The 31-year-old, fresh from a summer adventure with World Cup co-hosts Canada, has started every game this season after making his move from Mallorca permanent, following eight goals in 16 appearances on loan during the latter half of last season.
Larin's seven goals in eight games have come at an average of one every 85 minutes, and they have helped Saints overhaul their four-point penalty following 'Spygate'.
Former Tottenham man proving his worth
One goal behind sits Middlesbrough's big-money summer signing from Tottenham, Will Lankshear. The 21-year-old's form will already have Spurs fans wondering whether he might be the one who got away, and Premier League clubs will be keeping a close eye on proceedings in the second tier — forwards there are likely to prove better value and less risky than signings from other European leagues.
Blow for Norwich as Toure faces months out
Norwich's Mo Toure is one goal further back, with five goals from just 11 shots this season and a strike every 91 minutes on the pitch. But the Australia international will not get the chance to add to his tally any time soon:
"Toure, sadly, will not get chance to add to his tally any time soon - the Australia striker will be out for several months due to a shoulder injury sustained against Bolton on Sunday."
With Toure sidelined, the path to the Golden Boot looks increasingly like a two-horse race between Larin and Lankshear — though with 38 league games still to play, the Championship's famously unpredictable form suggests there will be plenty of twists to come.
