Inaugural Women's Bangladesh Premier League Postponed to July 2026
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially postponed the inaugural edition of the Women's Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) to July, following initial plans for an April launch. This decision, confirmed by a top BCB official to Cricbuzz on March 11, stems from challenges in attracting sponsors and failing to secure a third franchise, which were essential for the tournament's viability.

Originally scheduled between April 3-15, the WBPL represents Bangladesh's first franchise-based T20 competition for women. Many cricketers have long envisioned this event as a crucial milestone for the professional development of women's cricket in the nation. The postponement to July provides additional time to address logistical and financial hurdles.
"We are planning to host the tournament in July rather than from April," the official confirmed, highlighting the board's commitment to delivering a successful inaugural edition.
The tournament will feature three teams, uniting leading national cricketers with emerging talents. To promote fairness and competitiveness, local players will be selected via a player draft system, ensuring balanced squad strength and depth. Franchises will also have the opportunity to sign overseas professional players, adding international flair to the competition.
Rubaba Dowla, BCB Director and Chairperson of the BCB Women's Wing, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the WBPL Governing Council, underscoring the board's dedication to advancing women's cricket.
