Jersey seal World Cup Qualifier play-off spot with record 172-run rout of Papua New Guinea
Jersey have secured their place in December's ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier play-off in Nepal after a record-breaking 172-run victory over Papua New Guinea in Nairobi.
The island side posted 347-5 — their highest-ever total in a 50-over match — before bowling Papua New Guinea out for 175 in 36.5 overs. The win guarantees Jersey a top-two finish in ICC Challenge League A, and with it a trip to the Nepal play-off.

Zak Tribe's 150 underpins record total
Zak Tribe's 150 was his highest score for Jersey, with his only better innings for the island belonging to his brother Asa, who made 175 in a win over Qatar last summer.
Jersey lost opener Harrison Carlyon for 18 off 19 balls inside four overs, and the return of Glamorgan and England Lions batter Asa Tribe proved a tricky one. He and Josh Lawrenson added just 12 runs in the first six overs of their partnership before Tribe was bowled by Aue Oru off the first ball of the 13th over for 23 off 29 balls, leaving Jersey on 58-2.
Zak Tribe then joined Lawrenson and the pair set about a disciplined rebuild, putting on a match-defining 165 for the third wicket. Tribe reached his half-century off 58 balls, Lawrenson followed to fifty off 74, and Tribe brought up his century with a huge six off his 105th ball. The stand ended when Lawrenson was bowled by John Kariko for 72 off 95 balls.
Any remaining restriction on Jersey's scoring disappeared at that point, as big-hitting Jonty Jenner arrived and smashed a 17-ball half-century. He finished on 72 from just 23 balls, including nine sixes and two fours, sharing a fourth-wicket stand of 113 with Tribe made inside only 6.4 overs.
Tribe ended unbeaten on 150 off 129 balls, hitting five sixes and 11 fours.
Ward's five wickets finish the job
Papua New Guinea's reply never threatened. Carlyon struck in the first over, dismissing Doko Rupa for a duck to leave the Papuans on 3-1.
Sese Bau and Lega Siaka briefly resisted with a second-wicket partnership of 46, before George Richardson bowled the dangerous Bau for 22 with the score on 48-2 after 10 overs.
Ben Ward then took control. He removed Siaka for 39 and went on to bowl Patrick Nou for 14 and captain Assad Vala for 4 as Papua New Guinea slipped to 86-5 off 19.2 overs. Two more wickets followed as they lurched to 101-8 off 24.2 overs, giving Ward figures of 5-49.
Kabis Morea and Alei Nao provided some stiff ninth-wicket resistance with a stand of 64. Nao was eventually bowled by Charles Perchard for 32, and Morea made 40 before Josh Lawrenson trapped him lbw, ending the innings on 175 all out from 36.5 overs.
Tribe's return comes good for Jersey's World Cup push
Asa Tribe's comeback had been confirmed earlier in the campaign. Speaking on 21 October 2026, the 22-year-old — who had not played for his homeland since the summer of 2025 — said he was "absolutely delighted" to be back in the Jersey squad for the final round of ICC Challenge League A, with the island needing two more wins to reach the World Cup Qualifier play-off.
That return followed Jersey's warm-up form in Entebbe, where the islanders beat Uganda 'A' twice ahead of the Kenya tournament, with Ben Ward taking eight wickets across the two matches — figures reported on 19 October 2026 that included 3-20 in a nine-wicket opening win in which Lawrenson took 2-17 and Carlyon struck 59 off 78 balls.
The victory over Papua New Guinea means Jersey can now travel to Nepal knowing their qualification fate for the next stage of the Cricket World Cup pathway is already settled.
